Welcome to Our Church
Southside Baptist Church...If your looking for a church that welcomes everyone and anyone. We are a praying church, a loving church, a friendly church. It doesn't even matter what you wear, come as you are in what you have.
Meet The Pastor...
We, James Pettis, and wife Angela (Angel), came to Southside Baptist Church in March of 2015 to fill the Pulpit in the absence of their pastor. After a couple of months, we were asked to serve as Interim, to which we agreed without question. Sometime around the middle of July 2015 we were asked if we would consider serving as the church’s Pastor and Wife. After much Prayer, consideration, and a confirming word from Angel, We gladly accepted. The church confirmed us with a 100% vote which shocked me. This is my first church and will always be favored by me.
Angel and I were married July 4, 1994. We have five grown boys, J.T, Joey, Jake, Wyatt and Matthew. And three beautiful granddaughters. Mady, Cora, and Callie Whom we love very much. Two of them like to fish the river with their poppy. These have affectionately nick named me
“Pastor Poppy” and “Bro. Bald Man.” Names I am proud of!
Most recently, I served at Ogden Baptist Church as one of the Youth leaders. I have also served as Sunday School teacher (College & Career) and Ordained as a deacon at First Baptist Satartia under the ministry of Bro. James Allgood. There in 1997 I received the call to ministry and have served as a supply preacher since that time. After about 15 years of understanding that this was not the duty I had been called to, He finally got my attention in 2015 when I finally surrendered to the Pastoral Ministry. Quickly after that God opened a door for me at Southside Baptist Church And the sweetest people, I have ever had the pleasure to be associated with.
On January 24, 2016, we were ordained into the ministry at and by Ogden Baptist Church. Many friends and loved ones were in attendance.
Currently I am enrolled in Leavell College (an N.O.B.T.S. extension) where I am working toward my Associate of arts in Christian Ministry. We are looking forward to many years of ministry in this community. And to meeting you and becoming a part of your family.
